The name sounds like it would look. Ridge vents are placed on the horizontal ridge of the roof and aren’t as noticeable as other roof vents. Many roofers think this is the most efficient roofing system that can be installed.

Ridge vents combined with under eave venting (soffit) are the most efficient system you can install. While other forms of ventilation create hot and cold zones on the roof’s surface, ridge vent provides an even distribution of temperature.
